BME Group releases second Sustainability Report
Press release 30 April 2024BME Group (BME) today announced the publication of its second Sustainability Report, showcasing the company’s commitment to responsible Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) business practices.
The report builds on last year’s theme “Together We Build Sustainably” and the three defined focus areas: (1) Growing responsibly, (2) Enabling a sustainable value chain, and (3) Securing a great, flexible and safe place to work.
On all fronts we have made good progress, including the following highlights:
- We managed to reduce our carbon footprint in 2023 by 12% versus 2022 and we are on track to reduce our emissions by 25% versus a 2021 baseline in 2025.
- We welcomed more than 2,700 customers in our Greenworks Academies last year, providing training and workshops on how to build sustainably.
- The share of our procurement spend covered through Code of Conduct commitments and EcoVadis self-assessments has increased further.
- A strong reduction of the frequency and severity ratio of accidents, a sign that our group wide Health and Safety Compass Program and our commitment to creating a safe working environment is paying off.
“I am very pleased to present our Sustainability Report 2023. Following our inaugural Report last year, I am keen to share the progress we have made in 2023 and reflect on what lies ahead in achieving our ambition towards a more sustainable value chain.”, says Remco Teulings, Group CEO. “As one of the largest and fastest growing B2B distributors of building products in Europe, we see it as our obligation to be a catalyst for a more sustainable building sector and an accelerator for sustainable and responsible business practices in the value chain. As we look to the future, our commitment to leading in ESG practices is firm, with the understanding that our current decisions and actions lay the groundwork for tomorrow’s reality.”
