Our story

BME is the essential link between suppliers and customers as a leading and fast-growing business-to-business distributor for building materials across Europe. Our customers are mainly active in the new-build residential and renovation end-markets. Our employees understand their business and their needs which enable them to provide our customers with a true value-adding service.

Our people are at the heart of what we do

BME offers a One Stop Shop solution for building products through a dense local network of more than 920 locations across eight countries.

This means that we are always close to our customer. With more than 14,000 professional employees who have deep product knowledge, strong customer relationships and a “can-do” attitude, we fulfil our customers’ needs by helping them to deliver their projects in an easy, better, timely and more sustainable way.

A history of growing trusted, well-known local brands

Since the BME journey started 50 years ago in the Netherlands, we have expanded into Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal , and most recently, into Spain. These countries represent a large, diversified, and resilient set of markets.

We have leading market positions with renowned local brands across all countries and/or regions in which we are active, and we continue to focus on driving growth through opening new branches and through targeted acquisitions.

Building a dense local network with close customer proximity has resulted in long-lasting and personal relationships with over 18,000 suppliers and with more than 275,000 direct customers.

Leveraging our scale to grow our business and expand our presence

Our scale provides significant advantages for us, our suppliers, and customers. It allows us to operate and distribute our products to our customers better and more efficiently. This gives us more room to invest into our business, into our branch and distribution network, into value-added services, into our employees, and into digitizing  our business.
