BME Group acquires Bäthge Baustoffe to further expand its footprint in Berlin

Press release 13 December 2022

BME Group (BME) and the shareholders of Bäthge Baustoffe (Bäthge) have reached an agreement on the sale of Bäthge. Bäthge is a distributor of building materials and located in Berlin-Spandau, serving Berlin and adjacent Brandenburg. The acquisition enables BME to densify its network in Germany’s capital city as part of the BAUKING organisation. The transaction is still subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities and is expected to be completed early 2023.

Bäthge offers a comprehensive product portfolio of building materials with a focus on dry lining, building materials and prefabricated building elements. The company employs a total of 63 employees. Founded in 1855, Bäthge is owned and managed by Helmut Rumbucher and Markus Kellner who will continue to lead the business.

BME is one of Europe’s leading building material distribution companies and active in the distribution of building materials in Germany under the brands BAUKING and Mahler (General Builders Merchants) as well as SHK Deutschland (Sanitary, Heating & Plumbing Merchants).

BAUKING is market leader in the north of Germany, generating revenues of more than €1.2 billion with 72 general building merchant locations and 50 DIY locations (operating under the ‘hagebaumarkt’ brand). With the acquisition of Bäthge, BAUKING will expand its footprint in Berlin and adjacent Brandenburg, further underlining its commitment to the region after a significant upgrade of its Berlin-Schöneberg location.

Financial details of the transaction will not be disclosed.
