BME entered the Portuguese market of building materials in 1994 with the establishment of a 50-50 joint venture with Sonae MC. BME acquired the remaining 50% of shares in 2021. Within the fragmented Portuguese home improvement market, Maxmat is increasing its market presence through opening new branches.
