About
BME entered the distribution market for building products in the Netherlands in 1973 through the acquisition of Van Neerbos Groep. Since then, BME has grown into becoming one of the largest distributors of building materials within Europe.
The Netherlands has always remained one of the most important markets within BME, and has grown through the acquisition of many small family businesses into the market leader position. In 2014, all local companies were rebranded to the new name BMN Bouwmaterialen. In 2021, BMN significantly expanded its footprint with the acquisition of Saint Gobain Distribution Netherlands, operating under the brands ‘Raab Karcher’, ‘De Jager Tolhoek’, ‘Tegel Groep Nederland’, ‘Galvano’ and ‘Van Keulen’. In 2023, Bouwcenter Nelemans was acquired which enabled BMN to strengthen its footprint in the South and West of the Netherlands.
In 2019, BMN entered the ironmongery business with the opening of their first BMN IJzerwaren branch, followed by several greenfield openings and acquisitions of ironmongery companies, such as De Jong & Roos in 2021, GBI Jacob Bakker in 2022 and Van Engeland in 2023.
BMN is the trusted partner of architects, product developers, contractors and professional specialists and services them and their customers through their dense network of collect branches and showrooms for building materials and tiles. With a comprehensive range of customer services, a webshop, a customer app, and a fleet of more than 200 special trucks, BMN is the trusted partner for the professional builders.
Sustainably committed
BMN's sustainable commitment is well demonstrated by their ‘Greenworks’ proposition, the well-known sustainability label for building and installation materials created in cooperation with the Dutch central government and calculation tools such as 'GPR Gebouw'and 'BREEAM-NL'. Besides certified building and installation materials, Greenworks mostly provides advice through the Greenworks Academy where customers learn all about sustainable and circular building and renovation.
